Domestic Violence: The Victim's Story...
Veronica gets home. It is just after Dan gets home. Veronica knows that Dan is going to be upset because she was not there. She is not worried about the children because he has never gone off on them. But today was different. He was yelling at the top of his lungs when she came in. When he saw her he immediately accused her of cheating on him. He said that if she didn't come clean and admit her infidelity she would suffer. Veronica began crying. She screamed that she did not cheat on him. Dan struck her. In a blaze of anger he began to turn over furniture and demand that he be given the proper God given respect for being her husband. He stated she didn't deserve to be his wife. Veronica was sobbing. She laid on the floor wishing that she would not have stopped to talk to her friend earlier. She reasoned to herself that this would never have happened if she would have just come straight home. Several hours later, Dan sees Veronica in the same place that he slapped her down. He comes to her with a pill. He says he's sorry for hitting her and tells her to take it. It will make her feel better. Veronica without question takes the pill. Dan has sex with Veronica later that night. Veronica thinks to herself, maybe things will be better from now on. The next day, was bright and sunny. The kids had already made their way off to school. Dan left a note that he had taken the keys to her car. He said he would give her back the keys when she was ready to be honest with him.
